Park Guell is a unique and spectacular way to spend your day in Barcelona. This park was founded in 1888 by the Catalan architect Antoni Gaudí. The monumental zone is located at the end of the park. It features sculptures, fountains, and different types of stone used to create these incredible works of art. Even though it isn’t free, you can still get free entry.
Park Guell Entrance
Entrance to the park is free, and no tickets are needed. The park is open from 6:30 am to 8:00 pm every day. The park has several entrances, but the most popular one is located at the end of Carrer de la Sagrestia street. Another entrance is at the top of Avenida de Catalunya, a pedestrian street in Barcelona. These two entrances are connected by an escalator that takes you up to a platform above these two entrances.
In the centre of the park is one of Gaudí’s famous architectural masterpieces, Casa Vicens. This building is worth looking at when taking the Complete Park Guell Tour.
Entrance to Casa Vicens is €6, but it’s free if you get there before 10:00 am on weekdays!
Casa Vicens
Entrance to the Casa Vicens was free because I had an ISIC card. ISIC stands for International Student Identity Card. It is pretty cool, because it has a photo on it and it shows that you’re a student. After showing this card to the ticket person, I only had to pay the reduced price of €2.50! This ticket is valid for a day and gives you access to almost all museums in Barcelona, including the Picasso Museum, which is not free.
Casa Vicens is a former monastery that was converted into a museum and art gallery. It houses some of Gaudi’s most famous works. Suppose you’re interested in seeing all the works of art inside Casa Vicens. In that case, you can buy an excellent €3 guide that I highly recommend.
Casa Vicens housed sculptures by Antoni Gaudí and his son Jaume, who is responsible for creating the magnificent stained glass windows on Casa Vicens. I asked the ticket person to tell me more about Casa Vicens, and they told me that it was one of the first houses that Gaudí designed after he moved to Barcelona in 1883. It became a private residence in 1903 and a museum and art gallery in 1975. Suppose you’re going for a visit inside Casa Vicens. In that case, I highly recommend stopping by Sagrada Familia because it is only a couple of blocks away from this magnificent monument and you can buy La Sagrada Familia Tickets.
Casa Vicens is worth spending an hour inside. I suggest going there when you’re ready to visit the park anyway because it’s located between the park entrance and the park. If you want to be outside for a long time and have a great view of Park Güell, I highly recommend going there for an early picnic breakfast.
Park Guell Outdoor
An outdoor place where you can enjoy a picnic in this gorgeous park is called El Parc del Laberint d’Horta. This park is great for picnics because it offers a nice place to sit and relax in this wonderful park. When I went there, I was planning on spending the whole day in Park Güell, so I had brought a blanket and some food to enjoy. It was nice to sit outside because the view of the gardens from where I was sitting was amazing.
El Parc del Laberint d’Horta has several winding paths that you can take if you want to look around this beautiful park. The trail that I took was called the Carrer d’en Cervantes. It offered some beautiful views of Park Güell, and I had a great day just sitting in this park enjoying a picnic lunch.
Where to Hangout and Eat?
Some vendors sell food and drinks. They usually set their location near the big trees, where I had set my picnic blanket.
If you love pretty structures, fountains and sculptures, you’ll definitely love Park Güell. I spent a good portion of the day strolling through the park, admiring all of its beauty. Take the time to look at every detail of this lovely park because it’s a place that is very easy to miss.
Casa-Museu Gaudí is another great location to visit for free in Park Guell. This location used to be Gaudí’s residence in Park Guell, and it features some good information about the architect. Entrance is free and no tickets are needed.
Casa-Museu Gaudí is open from 9:30am-3:00pm Monday through Friday, except for holidays. It’s closed on weekends, so if you’re planning a visit to this Barcelona attraction on a weekend, plan accordingly because you won’t be able to go in on Saturday or Sunday. Once again, I used my ISIC card and got free entrance to Casa-Museu Gaudí.
Casa-Museu Gaudí
When you walk inside this museum, it offers a great deal of information about the architect who created Park Güell. You can look at some of the designs that he created while he was in Barcelona. There are two levels in this museum that you can visit, which are free of charge. This museum is open from 9:30am-3:00pm Monday through Friday, except for holidays.
An old church was transformed into a museum to house some of the best works of modern art in Barcelona. L’Oratori dels Caputxins is an art museum that is located on the Diagonal Passeig de Gràcia. The entrance to this museum is free, and it doesn’t require any tickets to be purchased.
L’Oratori dels Caputxins
L’Oratori dels Caputxins is a must-see location for art lovers. This museum is beautiful, with its high ceilings and stained glass windows. It has one main floor, where you can visit the museum. There is an elevator that takes you to each of the floors. I had a good time here looking at some of the artwork on display in this museum.
In order to visit this art museum, you need to be at least 14 years old. Once I entered the building and presented my ISIC card, I was given a ticket that gave me access to the exterior parts of this museum. This ticket is really worth the price because you get an incredible view of Barcelona from the rooftop.
You might be wondering why you need to go outside and look at the rooftop of L’Oratori dels Caputxins. The main reason is that it gives you a nice view of Barcelona below, and you can see Park Güell from the rooftop. It’s an incredible experience to get this view of Barcelona, because it has some beautiful architecture that I enjoyed from up there.
If you have time, I highly recommend spending an hour or two at L’Oratori dels Caputxins. I ended up spending the entire afternoon at L’Oratori dels Caputxins because I found it to be such a beautiful and interesting place. When I was there, there were two other groups of two tourists who were chatting amongst themselves and looking at the art work on display in this museum. The ambiance was calm, peaceful and wonderful inside this museum.
I don’t have any regrets about visiting Park Güell, Casa Vicens and L’Oratori dels Caputxins. Imagine my surprise when I found out that I was able to see these three attractions in one day for free, using my ISIC card.
