What are the races in Dungeons & Dragons?
There are tons of races in D&D, although some are of the “home brew” variety. If you’re looking at the classic races available, here are some to consider! These aren’t all of them but represent a good variety of options!
Dragonborn
Dragonborns originally hatched from dragon eggs as a unique race, combining the best traits of humanoids and dragons together. While all dragonborn are related to dragons, they are often on different paths, some choosing to serve the true dragons while others find themselves drifting with no clear calling.
Dragonborn are strong and tall, with claws on each hand and the blood of a type of dragon running through them. Their scale color often represents their dragon ancestor. Most dragonborn are devoted to their clan and must honor their clan to avoid being exiled. This gives the dragonborn race a very strong sense of self-improvement. Dragonborn hate to fail and often push themselves to the extreme before giving up.
You should choose this race if you want a character that’s bold, determined, and loyal. This is a great class for people that want to embody a strong character that’s not afraid of being in the front lines of combat.

Dwarf
Dwarves are skilled warriors and hard workers, known for being hardy and courageous. Dwarves are often deep brown, tan, or pale with a red hue, with long simple hairstyles and big beards on the men. Dwarves can live to be 400 years old, solid and enduring. They respect tradition and are devoted to their gods who uphold ideals like industrious labor.
Dwarves are determined and loyal, and always true to their word. But they’re often very stubborn. Dwarves have a strong sense of justice and will often not forgive people for wrongdoings. If you wrong one dwarf, you’ve wronged the whole clan.
Play as a dwarf if you want to use a warhammer or battleaxe, taking the role of a barbarian or cleric. This is a great race for people that want to follow the rules and always do what is right. It’s also a fun role to embody if you want to argue your points with the rest of your squad and hold grudges against teammates who do something you don’t like. This can create some pretty funny scenarios.

Elf
Elves are magical and graceful, often living in places of ethereal beauty within ancient forests. Elves love nature, magic, and the arts. Elves are graceful with fine features and a haunting beauty. They favor elegant clothing in bright colors and stunning jewelry.
Elves can live well over 700 years, giving them a broad perspective on life and the world around them. They are curious, easily amused, and often aloof. Elves can be focused and relentless when it comes to pursuing a personal goal, although they are open to compromise in order to resolve differences and avoid violence.
Elves are skilled hunters and talented artisans. Many of them love adventure and have wanderlust, enjoying centuries of exploration and discovery. A lot of elves like to join just fights and causes.
Play as an elf if you want to play a character that’s more focused on long-range combat than in-your-face fighting. Elves are a great race for people that want to explore a wide variety of skills, whether it’s in the arts or in combat. You can often create interesting backstories for a character that has lived so long, whether it’s focused on serving their ancestors or breaking free from society.

Half Orc
This race is half human, half orc, often formed from the two races forming alliances and kingdoms together. Some half orcs venture out to prove their worth while others become proud leaders. Half orcs have traits of both races, often valuing scars as a thing of beauty and source of pride.
Half orcs look up to Gruumsh, the lord of war and fury. Some half orcs will even hear him whisper in their dreams, taunting them to unleash their rage. Half orcs are very emotional, usually experiencing physical effects from strong feelings like hurt and anger. They also laugh loudly and love simple pleasures in life like drinking and wrestling. This race is very short-tempered.
Choose a half orc if you want to play a hot-blooded type that’s quick to violence. This is a fun role for anyone that wants to participate in melee-style combat or play the role of a loud-mouthed, emotional brute.
